Makowski Makes Debut for Canisius

 

 

Former Medford Strikers Xtreme and Cherokee H.S. player Kasey Makowski saw her first college action Aug. 31, playing 59 minutes for Canisius in a 2-0 loss at Duquesne. Makowski, a first year, came on in the 31st minute and played the rest of the way. She got off two shots.   Two days later Makowski got her first colege start as the Griffs tied University of Buffalo , 1-1 at home.


 

 

O’Rourke Gets N.C.  State Wolfpack Going

 

Raleigh, NC, Aug. 31, 2007 -- Senior captain Jessie O’Rourke, of the Medford Strikers Scream and Cherokee H.S., scored the first goal for NC State tonight as the Wolfpack went on to down Davidson, 5-1 in the season opener for both clubs. O’Rourke, who was the leading scorer for NC State last season, got her team on the board in the 39th minute

 

 

Konopka, DiBruno Named First Team All-Region

 

 

 Dec. 4, 2006 -- Strikers alumnae Lauren Konopka of Wheaton College and Dana DiBruno of The College of New Jersey, were named to their respective All-Region First Teams by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). It was the second straight year each was selected to the first team.

 

 

Konopka, a junior from Holy Cross H.S., was named to the All- New England squad after making first team all-conference in the New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) while DiBruno made the All Mid-Atlantic team after being selected first team all conference in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).

 

 

Wheaton, located in Norton, MA, finished the year ranked #19 in the country while TCNJ was #2 and played in the national championship game for the second straight year, falling to Wheaton, IL , 2-0.

COLLGEVILLE, PA - Former Striker Nicole Papp, now a sophomore at Ursinus, was named to the Centennial Conference Honor Roll after scoring the game-winning goal against Swartmore. She is the team’s top scorer.

 

 

Konopka Scores 7th as 11th-Ranked Wheaton Extends Streaks

NORTON, MA - Lauren Konopka, former star for the Medford Strikers Freedom and Holy Cross High School, scored her seventh goal of the season as the Wheaton Lyons shut out Clark, 3-0 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest this afternoon. It was the 11th straight victory of the season for the Lyons , ranked 11th nationally in Division 3, and the 70th consecutive conference game without a loss.

 

 

With seven assists to go with her seven goals, Konopka is tied for (coincidentally with her roommate) the team lead in scoring. She is second on the team in goals.

 

 

The Lyons will seek to extend their streaks Tuesday with a visit to Babson.

 

 

NC State’s Jessica O’Rourke Earns ACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Former Medford Striker and Cherokee HS star Jessica O’Rourke, a junior at North Carolina State , was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)Women’s Soccer Player of the Week after contributing on all five goals scored the Wolfpack scored in two victories this weekend.

 

 

O’Rourke registered her first career hat trick as she scored all of her team’s goals in the a 3-1 win over Georgia State at the Summit Hospitality Invitational hosted by NC State. The midfielder got the Pack on the board first in the 15th minute of action as she took a cross from Katie Ruiz and headed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. O’Rourke tallied her second goal of the match, the game-winner, in the 78th minute before capping off the afternoon with her third goal in the final minute of action.

 

 

In Sunday’s 2-0 win over American, O’Rourke assisted on the game-winner as she found Lindsay Vera from 10 yards out at 5:42 in the first half. The Marlton, N.J. native then added an insurance goal later in the first half as scored her fifth of the season on a blast from 25 yards out.

 

O’Rourke leads the undefeated (5-0-1) Wolfpack in goals (5), points (12), shots (23) and game-winning goals (2) through the first six games this season.
